Rochester Cello Society

The Rochester Cello Society is an all-inclusive group of cellists in the Rochester, NY area. Cellists (students and professionals) and lovers of cello music are all invited to join. Events like cello ensemble reading, concerts and recitals, and masterclasses will be periodically planned throughout the year. This is all in the spirit of bringing cellists together and creating positivity in the community.

Cello Ensemble Reading Session with Kathy Kemp

Saturday, February 1, 4-6pm

We will join together for a Cello Ensemble Reading Session led by Kathy Kemp on Saturday, February 1 from 4-6pm at the historic Two Saints Church on Fitzhugh Street. Cost is $20 per player, cash at the event. To participate, RSVP to or respond “Going” to the Facebook event by Wednesday, January 29. This reading session is for cellists of any age in Suzuki Book 3 and higher. Music will be chosen that has a variety of levels, so everyone can be comfortable participating or be challenged, as you desire. Note reading is essential, as this is a reading session. Music will not be distributed in advance. Please bring your cello, a rock stop, and a music stand.

Biography of Kathy Kemp

Kathleen Murphy Kemp is Assistant Principal Cello of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra and has been a full time member of the RPO cello section since 1977. A graduate of the Eastman School of Music, she earned a Bachelor of Music and the Masters of Performance and Literature as well as the Performers Certificate. Kathleen serves on the faculty at the Hochstein School.

Cello Maintenance and Repair Workshop with Delmonico and Dugdale Strings

Delmonico and Dugdale

Luthiers John Delmonico and Jimmy Dugdale of Delmonico and Dugdale Strings will present a workshop on Cello Maintenance and Repair. Learn how to best care for your instrument. Learn about what you can do at home to keep your cello happy and healthy, and if something happens to your cello, learn about what your trusty luthiers can do to return your cello to perfect playing condition. If you own your own cello or are ever planning to, this workshop is a MUST! Cost is $10 per person at the door. To register, e-mail or respond “Going” to the Facebook event by Wednesday, March 4.
